PRO-KID performing in Grahamstown EC |
Over the years, the
South African music industry has grown rapidly. The hiphop industry is one of
the SA music genres that have seen a major growth in recent years. I have seen
artists move from performing in the streets to performing in stadiums. I
believe that behind every artist there has to be a proper marketing strategy.
In this day and age, musicians don’t only make money from making music and
performances; most of their money is made through endorsements. Hiphop artists
like ‘PRO’ have made multiple hits in his life time. He recently received an
endorsement with ‘Fish Eagle’.
We might always see
the artist performing on the stage, but there are people who work behind the
scenes with the purpose of improving these artists as brands. Most musicians
are successful because they executed their marketing strategies perfectly. All thanks
to their PR/ marketing departments who make them prominent brands. It is clear
that they would not be where they are without them. I personally think
musicians do need to have strategic ways of improving their brands in order to
last longer in the industry, either that, or you will never makie it.
True that. Our musicians should have a strategy to tackle life and be reckoned through multi-tasking. They should thank the PR/Marketing department for such a great work to promote them and be successful.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Having a PR strategy is an advanyage because it stretches one's career in the music industry.
DeleteYes it`s also giving us hope that these artists will move to the time when they reach a higher level like the United States artists. I`m taliking about the likes of 50 Cent,Nas we have seen them in brands such as Nike and Adidas. We also hope that their record labels will do the same like Def Jam did with Adidas.
ReplyDeleteThat is why SA artist need to have international standards so that they can reach out to a global market.
DeleteIt simply shows that PR and marketing play a crucial role in promoting and making a brand grow big,but it also depends on the kind of strategy a person uses.
ReplyDeleteThat is why you need to chose the best PRPs in the business
Deleteof course as a brand you need to have something or somebody to promote and protect your reputation. as Phethile said, PR and Marketing do play a crucial in promoting our local artists
ReplyDeletewell said Mxolisi. every brand needs PR to ensure success.
ReplyDeleteThe hidden talent is huge in South Africa, as you mantioned PR and marketing department their role make a difference in this young talents. it would be better if they dont focus only on prominet artist only but also those ones in the street too.
ReplyDeleteI agree Themba, but the prominent artists have an advantage because they have more money and more fans.
Deletethat true xolani many artists fail in the music industry because they dont have a good pr/marketing strategy.
ReplyDeleteIts never easy for artists without a PR strategy to make it.
DeleteI agree with you, market your brand well and you will go places. Again, in these times it's not about if you can sing or not. Its just about how your brand is marketed
ReplyDeletethat is very true Toka.
DeleteIt is about time people stopped thinking that only talents can get ana artist far. They should also remember that PR and Marketing are the reason the brand gets to be succesful.
ReplyDeleteThat's a valid statement Margaret. Musicians need to understand that there is more to this business than just making music
